"Messed Up" (Genesis 37:1-11)
1) God's perfect plan unfolds through messy people
2) Even through the mess, remain faithful in Him
3) Messes become mercies
Challenge: Joesph may have been a famous person in the Old Testament, but he lived with a family that went through much internal problems. His brothers sold him for money and his brothers lied to their father saying that Joseph was dead. God had a plan for Joseph through this messy situation he was in. Joseph's situation became even messier when Joseph faced negative influences in his life: hatred of being the family favorite, temptation to fall for Pharaoh's wife, power to ban his brothers from receiving food from Egypt, and many more. However, Joseph remained faithful to God in every situation he faced in Egypt. Eventually, in the end of Joseph's story, he shows mercy to his brothers and forgives them. Many people may have similar experience today int heir families and people sometimes lose hope in their family. However, we are reminded through Joseph's story that even though the family may be imperfect, God works through messy families. Even throughout the bible, every person God worked through was "messy". And eventually through those messy families came Jesus Christ, who came to heal the brokenness in God's family. It's not a matter of "do this and do that" or "respect your parents" or "don't fight with your siblings". The bigger picture is His grace and love show dot all families that are broken, but broken families God will use for His greater plan in this world! Remember, His mercies are new everyday!
